Luck of the Irish

Irish is owned by Nicole, who says this of her horse:

"Luck of the Irish, (Irish to his barn-mate Apache Storm) is a 15.1 hh Araloosa (Arab Appaloosa cross) gelding who is 8 years old. He is an awesome spunky dude with loads of character. In 2006 he went to the Orillia Fall Fair and was first in the Novice English Equitation, which shocked my parents and I. He’s told me that English is not his game. So now we’re competing in the Novice western games at the North River Riders shows. Irish even loves working at home just for practice.

Araloosa HorseWhen Irish came to me in July 1st, 2006 he was only green broke. He was very head-shy, and wouldn’t accept a bit in his mouth. Asking for a canter was a challenge. Two years later he loves to canter and gallop and would do it all day instead of trotting. Irish still loves his jumps even if it means he has to have an English saddle. Also he is coming along great with his head-shyness, we’re working on the ears still, but patience, patience! When we go out to the paddocks to put his halter on he opens his mouth and tries to find the bit, which is actually very funny!

He has shown us quite a bit in the last 2 years. If we put him out with the cows he will keep them in one certain area just like a cutting horse without a rider which is truly amazing (the cows don’t agree)!

Congratulations to Irish for being our February 18th, 2008 Horse of the Week!
