Rocky Mountain HorseCCF Gunner

CCF Gunner is a registered Rocky Mountain Horse who lives at his owner’s home just outside of Orangeville, Ontario. He is a 5 year old chocolate gelding, 15.3 hands high with flaxen mane & tail (which seems to be going darker every year), white blaze and two white socks on his back legs. CCF Gunner is his registered name, but he goes by the barn name 'Grady'.

This is what his owner has to say:

Grady was purchased when he was about 5 or 6 months old and he has grown up with a mini who is his best friend. It is hilarious to watch them play as Grady thinks he is a “small” horse and the mini thinks he is a “big” horse. Grady is very gentle and plays according to the size of his mini friend. When the mini tries to bite Grady’s knees, Grady will get down on his knees to try and reciprocate. He has been clicker trained to pick up his ball and we are working on him handing it to me.

These pictures were taken at Grady’s first show at the Central Canada Paso Fino Association Fun Show in Erin where he took first place in the Novice Horse Class. The rider is Tracy Bush, Equine Manager/Trainer of Coffey Creek Farm (breeder of Rocky Mountain & Kentucky Mountain horses & where Grady was purchased). Tracy has been instrumental in Grady’s training and has provided lessons and enormous support to his owner. It was a very proud moment to see Grady in the show ring for the first time and to see him handle everything in stride.

Rocky Mountain HorseGrady and his owner continue with lessons at Coffey Creek Farm and have started the Parelli Natural Horsemanship program this year. Grady is progressing quickly as he is very smart and willing with nothing standing in their way. The bond between us just keeps on growing and growing!

Congratulations to Grady for being our September 1st, 2008 Horse of the Week!
