Majalinda Cler This pretty horse is Majalinda Cler, a 15 year old chestnut Paso Fino mare with a white blaze on her face and 3 white stockings. She is 14.2 hh and is solidly built for this breed. Her name is pronounced "Ma-ha-linda" with a the "j" sounding as an "h". She is owned by Judy Booth of Brampton, Ontario and is boarded at Forest Gait Farm, north of Georgetown on the Niagara Escarpment. She lives outside within a small herd year round and can be seen developing her winter coat in these photos. Judy says this of her horse: "When I purchased Majalinda in May of this year (2007), she was unfit and very overweight as she had not been ridden much in the last 6 years. She needed to lose about 150 lbs and get some fitness back. She is coming along very nicely and has lost most of her excess weight. Majalinda is getting lots of exercise on the rugged trails of the Niagara Escarpment and is now quite fit. This horse has a few issues we are still working on - getting her to happily leave the barn as she is somewhat “barn sour”. Majalinda had spent many years in the company of her daughter, Princessa, and hated to be separated from her for any length of time. Majalinda was also not happy when cross tied, but with practise, she has mastered this basic skill and now she is totally relaxed and stands perfectly still. Majalinda is a very sweet and affectionate horse and loves to have her head and ears rubbed. She is used solely as a trail horse and is very brave and capable in this job. She is calm, sure-footed, great with traffic and wildlife and will cross streams and water when asked. All in all, she has done very well in a matter of just a few months and it has been a learning experience for both of us." "Congratulations to Mahalinda for being our December 10th, 2007 Horse of the Week! |
