Candy This gorgeous mare is a buckskin Welsh Mountain Pony owned by Rocking Chair Ranch, in Warminster, Ontario, Canada. She was born in 2000 and stands 13.2hh. We have featured several other horses at Carol's barn including Sonny, Nafaa and Fadji. Her owner is Carol McIsaac. "Candy came to us quite by chance and we love her dearly. She was not one to trust men off the start but has built trust back up. She is out of Forewarned and "Blondie" and is a very solid mount. Candy was broke gradually to saddle. I started her, then had knee surgery, so she became pasture art for a time. After I recovered, I started riding her again and Candy never really looked back. She loves to be worked with and around, this is a good thing since it can take almost an hour to brush out her mane and tail. Despite her small stature, compared to the rest of our horses, Candy is the alpha mare. The boys get out of her way if she says she wants that hay pile. She and Pokey rule the fields of Rocking Chair Ranch and keep the Arabs and others in check. Candy strutted her stuff on her first trail ride a few years ago. A very food motivated animal, I had cut some carrots into slices for rewards and as we progressed on our ride with several of the other horses we came upon a snowmobile. The driver was one of our riding students so he shut off the machine, took off his helmet and said hello. Candy strolled up to him and I had him give her some carrot slices. When he started up the machine with her standing beside it, then drove off, she started to trot after him thinking the carrots had gone with him. She is not one to spook at things, a very solid trail pony. I am looking forward to finishing her driving training this spring. She is ready to hook up and pull." Congratulations to Candy for being our January 21st, 2008 Horse of the Week! |
