Before the Cash (Jiggs) This week we are featuring "Before the Cash", a 15.2 hh Quarter Horse owned by Evelyn Ross of Orillia, Ontario. Jiggs, as he is known around the barn, is a handsome chestnut gelding who enjoys treats, cuddles and hanging out with his buddies at Spruce Lane Farm. Though not much of a jumper, he is ridden English on the trails and has been to a few horse shows. Small and compact, he has an extraordinary large stride for his size. Evelyn and Jiggs are currently working on their dressage skills. Evelyn admits to being a bit of a task master with Jiggs when putting him through his lessons, and in return he is a wonderful, hardworking horse. This past winter, when trail riding became too dangerous with the icy winter conditions, she decided to spend some time "playing" with him in the arena. She brought in a large Pilates ball to see if they could play a game. She patiently showed him how to kick the ball to make it move. Jiggs watched very intently, and the wheels of his equine brain were spinning. After trying to imitate her, he managed to kick the ball under his own belly. Eventually, with much patience on Evelyn's part, he gave the ball a good whack with his head and sent it flying! What a clever boy!! Congratulations to Jiggs for being our April 3rd, 2006 Horse of the Week! Horse of the Week changes sometime Sunday Evening |
