Janet Grant riding Fleco de Oro Sutton Fair, Sutton, Ontario We spent a fun, hot day at the small town Sutton Fair on Saturday August 7th. My sister, Janet Grant, and Camilla Willings hauled two horses to this charming small town near the south shore of Lake Simcoe. Horses, cattle, monster trucks, midway rides, sirens and beer tents were a clash of sights and sounds. Kudos to all the young horses for performing so well on the day, including the 5 year old stallion Destino (a past horse of the week) and Janet's borrowed 5 year old gelding Fleco de Oro (Fleck of Gold). Richard Roy of R and D Farms in St. Catharines came first in every class he entered and won the Challenge of the Breeds on his gelding Saturno QC. Congrats Richard! Fleco was both fascinated and terrified of the horse drawn carriages, but by the end of the day he stood calmly next to them like an old pro. How strange must that look to a horse? Is the carriage chasing the other horses, is one going to chase me next? What's all the stuff and lines keeping them together? I think it is the spinning movement of the wheels that mesmerizes the horses most of all. Janet & Fleco and Camilla & Destino took a bucket load of ribbons home from the gaited horse classes and Leslie took home 900 photos to process! | |
