Doors Open Fergus - Meet the Breed Day

The Central Canada Paso Fino Horse Association participated in the Fergus, Ontario 'Doors Open' event on June 20th, 2009. Not only could the general public see an operating horse farm (something the city folks wouldn't normally have access to), they could also have a test ride on a Paso Fino horse. The Harris family of Forest Gait Farm opened their farm up to hundreds of strangers who wandered through their property and admired the horses.

All the horses were very patient, but they were tired at the end of the day. The president of the CCPFHA commented that it was fortunate that it rained - they wouldn't have been able to provide enough horses for the test rides if any more people had showed up!

Our favourite moment was the 87 year old man who desperately wanted to ride a horse - he hadn't been on one since he was a teenager in Holland. Pia was very careful with him, and he left the farm a happy man. Pia and the test rideDenise Chandler of Petise Paso Finos had a chance to ride Fiesta again - a favourite pinto mare that she had trained and sold to a farm in Eastern Ontario. (see top photo). There were breed demonstrations all day, horse soccer, Latin music and food for sale amidst the rain. After all the guests left the volunteers had a potluck dinner at the house, thanks for inviting us!
